Two students from Scofield Magnet Middle White Team were Regional winners in this year’s Exploravision Competition for their invention of the future, the Community Algae BioReactor. Richard Ira and Brian Niguidula researched and developed the idea of collecting oil from algae as an invention of the future. There are six regional winners in the country for their age group.
The Toshiba/NSTA Exploravision Competition typically receives over 6,000 entries. Each of the students have receives a Certificate of Achievement and a Toshiba camera. Scofield Magnet Middle school received a Toshiba laptop computer. Richard and Brian are now completing a website and a prototype of their project to win the top prize of a $10,000 savings bond and a trip to Washington, DC. Vido Chiarella, a representative from Toshiba, will be presenting the award to Richard and Brian in a ceremony this Friday, March 26, at 10:30 am at Scofield Magnet Middle School.
