Saturday, February 14th, nine Scofield Students competed at the all-day Southwest Connecticut MATHCOUNTS competition at Fairfield University against 150 of the most talented math students from both public and private schools in this part of the state.
Our 4 person team, consisting of Cameron Y and Ben P, 8th graders and Sana S and Jonathan X, 7th graders placed 5th, which entitles them to move on to compete at the state level. Additionally, Casey Z, 6th grader, placed high enough on his individual score to also make it to the state competition.
This is the first time that Scofield's team has successfully made it to the state competition, and it is really exciting to have 5 of our students participating on the state level! Additionally, Cameron and Jonathan also made it into the top 12 scorers to participate in the countdown round of the competition!
Victor D, Suraj J and
Leah R filled out the rest of the Scofield representatives. Maigh
A, also
a 6th grader at Scofield, participated in an open slot for Cloonan--and
while she is ineligible to go to state because she was filling an empty
spot--it
was a wonderful experience for her, and will only make her a stronger
competitor next year!
Only one other student from Stamford, Christian S of Rippowam, who
had won the number one slot in the Stamford mathelete Competition,
will also
be going
on to the state level.
