2017 Scofield Summer Reading Assignment
For this summer's reading assignment, we are doing an All School Read using The Boy Who Harnassed the Wind by William Kamkwamba. In this true account, Kamkwamba shares the remarkable story of his youth in Malawi, Africa, in which he constructed a windmill from scraps to create electricity for his community. Through tenacity and imagination, he built a better life for himself, his family, and his village. To accompany the reading, students will also be completing various metacognitive reading logs, in which they reflect critically on what they read, ask questions, note passages of importance or confusion, and connect beyond the texts.
Congratulations to Manal Amrani, who was chosen as a winner of the 2017 CHET Dream Big Competition. Manal received a $500 CHET 529 college savings account contribution, and was recognized at a ceremony at the Connecticut Science Center. Way to go!
